Kenya – Education for Life
Education for Life resulted from the vision of Glyn and Jane Davies, to help the children of Timbwani village south of the city of Mombasa. Since 2002, LightForce International has supported children in their nursery project. This was to give children under 5 some basic knowledge to allow them to pass the entrance exam and gain access to full time education. Education for Life currently has 120 children in nursery, 300 in primary school and almost 200 in secondary school. Each child receives a wholesome meal every lunchtime as well as a good education.
Kenya – Little Hopes Nursery
A team led by John Odhiambo run the Little Hopes Centre in Kisumu, Kenya. The vision is to provide Early Childhood Development to pre-school aged children from the Manyatta slum area where the project is located. When LightForce Director George Ridley visited in December 2010 he found a small building made out of corrugated sheeting on rented land. The volunteer team behind the project is currently serving over 60 children daily. LightForce made a commitment of just £350 which enabled John and the team to construct a much larger building with 3 classrooms before the children returned for the new school year in January 2011.
India – Vision Rescue
Vision Rescue is a registered non-profit charity involved in feeding, providing non-formal education, medical help, skills training and other kinds of assistance to the addicted and abused street children. Vision Rescue ministers to some of the 300,000 street children that live in Mumbai. By the time they are eight to nine years old many are totally out of control and destined for a life of crime, sexual abuse and prostitution. Most of the children beg, but pass the money to someone for whom they are just a slave.
