Humanitarian
& Emergency Response |
The charity has experience and capacity to respond to and assist the plight of those facing a humanitarian crisis. It has punctuated our regular work through the years. |
| |
Albania from 1993 LightForce International has worked to renovate health
centres and schools and provided medical
equipment, hospital beds and tables and chairs
for schools. There has been the distribution of
cows and pigs to members of the population. Fire
engines and ambulances have been supplied to the
local authority and police. Emergency supplies
including food aid, blankets and clothing have
been distributed to 1000’s of people. Assistance
has been given to develop income generation
projects. A pilot project for sustainable
farming ran for 5 years. In Lezhe, northern
Albania the LightForce Centre has provided camp
facilities for 100’s of children each year since
the turn of the century. |

Kosova Crisis 1999
LightForce International was able to send 70
trucks of essential aid to Albania and Kosova.
From the LightForce Centre in Albania
agricultural equipment, cows and sheep were
donated to the victims of the ethnic cleansing
carried out by Milosevic’s regime. Income
generation was encouraged through the donation
of a complete sewing plant to one local
community. In the early stages 65 houses were
constructed for those returnees from Albania who
found their homes destroyed and needed shelter –
others were given tents. |

Uganda 2004 to date
Partnering with World Food programme, Unicef and implementing
projects for Memisa, Belgium with funding from
the Belgian government LightForce International
has established itself as a key actor in
assisting the population. First by providing
food aid as part of a social support programme
to 5,500 orphans and vulnerable children and
then assisting the return process as displaced
people moved home LightForce International has
distributed 1000’s of tons of vital aid –
tarpaulins, blankets, clothing, mosquito nets,
cooking pots, tents, soap, buckets, jerry cans &
bowls to name a few commodities. Also active in
education through monitoring schools, LightForce
International has been involved in construction
and repair of classrooms and toilets as well as
the provision of uniforms and school resources.
The Health sector has also benefited through the
repair of 20 health units by the end of 2007 as
well as provision of vital equipment and drugs. |

Northern Uganda Floods
8,380 households benefited from LightForce International
intervention in partnership with Unicef in
September & October 2007. Unseasonal rains led
to over 90,000 families in Lira District being
affected. Amongst the first to respond,
LightForce International trucks and team members
moved, against immense logistical challenges, to
provide help to the worst affected. Warm
clothing & blankets along with jerry cans, soap,
mosquito nets and water purification tablets
were core items amongst the tons of aid
supplied. |
