Carol Bellamy (UNICEF) visited Northern Uganda in May 2004 and said, “Uganda is home to one of the worst humanitarian crisis in the world today.” Atrocities committed by a rebel force the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) have seen c.1.4 million people displaced from their village homes. 1000’s of children have witnessed violence & killings, been abducted to serve as porters, become sex slaves or fight with the rebels. Indeed many have been left as orphans.
LightForce International has been working in Lira district for four years. Initially the work was in camps housing displaced people but now the focus is on resettlement as people move back to their villages.
